The AmericanAirlines Arena first opened during the 1999-2000 NBA season, on December 31, 1999. The arena is home to the Miami HEAT, the Miami Sol of the WNBA, special events and concerts. Since the NBA Basketball season starts in November, the Miami HEAT played their first 13 games in November and December of 1999 at Miami Arena (which is also where they played all home games prior to the 1999-2000 season). The Miami HEAT moved into AmericanAirlines Arena to play their final 28 regular season games on January 2, 2000.
The AmericanAirlines Arena is fully ADA-compliant. Seating in accessible sections will be identified and sold as either an accessible seat or a companion seat. The AmericanAirlines Arena is located at 601 Biscayne Blvd. Miami, FL 33132 (adjacent to Bayside Marketplace and the Port of Miami). Ample parking is available. There are also 900 parking spaces available at the Miami-Dade Community College parking garage, located just two blocks west of the AmericanAirlines Arena. No flash cameras or video recorders are permitted during events.
